“Box Office Battle” is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.
Warner Bros. (WBD) and Legendary’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” stayed atop the domestic box office with another $31.7M in its sophomore outing for a cume of $135M. Overseas, the movie fell 53% to $59.3M for a foreign tally of $226M and $361.1M globally. “Godzilla x Kong” sports an A- CinemaScore from audiences.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Monkey Man” placed number two with a $10.1M debut. Behind it was Sony‘s (SONY) “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” with another $9M from 3,835 locations. Disney’s (DIS) “The First Omen” placed number four with an $8.4M debut. Rounding out the top five, Comcast subsidiary Universal’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” grossed an estimated $7.9M as it crossed the $400M mark globally.
